The focus of the resort is the natural environment on and off shore. The company owning the island has gone to great lengths to safeguards its ecological balance. Except for the resort itself Pulau Gemia, which covers about 9 acres, is totally under developed. Its sandy beaches and rocky covers surround a steep and densely forested interior, which is deliberately left unexplored to preserve wildlife. The chalets themselves stand on sturdy concrete stilts, hugging the coastline, with the sea below. As a result the tree-covered slopes of the island have been left intact during construction. In consequence the island retains its peaceful, quiet atmosphere, the nesting site of sea eagles, reef herons, terns and other birds.
